There’s a huge array of important players that formulate a team who constantly work through getting out a defined and quality product. One of those important team player is the Technical Designer. I fell into Technical/ Production, in my early years in the industry. I was amazed of basic functions and skills required to develop a style to the standard customer measurements. It was later when I worked as a Technical Designer for one of the industry’s most knowledgeable sweater designers, did I truly appreciate the science.
A Technical Designer is an individual that reviews the make-up of the style in question. They review how the garment is supposed to be constructed and fit and make changes accordingly to meet the standard expectation before the garment is shipped. A Tech Designer’s job is important and can be dire because if the fit construction is not correct, the customer will not buy it! This is a company’s worst nightmare having goods not sellable due to a sizing mishap or noticeable construction flaw. All parties may suffer from the manufacturer, vendor and the buyer.
